Huntington Local Schools honored long-time Coach, Teacher and Community member Rick Bethel at the SVC Track Meet on Friday. The Huntington Board of Education, Administration, and Athletic Department wished to celebrate the coaching achievements, service, and dedication of Coach Rick Bethel by designating the track at the Myrl H. Shoemaker Athletic Complex to be known from now on as "The Coach Bethel Track."
Mr. Rick Bethel graduated from Huntington High School in 1964. A lifelong Huntsman, he began his service to Huntington students and the Huntington community in 1971. Mr. Bethel from retired from Huntington Local Schools in 2019. During that span, Mr. Bethel served Huntington students and athletes as an Athletic Director, boys basketball coach, volleyball coach, and girls track and field coach. Mr. Bethel coached Huntington student-athletes for 40 years.
Rick has been married to another former Huntington employee, Coleen, for 38 years. He has 2 children, Tyler, a United States Marine Corps veteran and Shilo who resides in Ponte Varda, Florida and along with her husband where they pastor St. Johns Faith Community Church. Rick and Coleen have 3 grandchildren Levi, Luci, and Benjamin Phillips.
