2. Congratulations to our track teams who competed at the Westfall Invitational last night. Hope Oyer was 6th in the discus. The 4x100 relay team of Trinity Benner, Hope Oyer, Emily McCray and Cheyanne Kifer placed 8th. The boys finished 2nd out of 10 teams. 1st place went to Jarod Bellar in the 800 m. run, the 4x200 relay team of Dalton Haubeil, Seth McCloskey, Gregory Richards and Jarod Bellar and the 4x400 relay team of Gregory Richards, Seth McCloskey, Brian Hertenstein and Jared Bellar. 2nd place winners were Dalton Haubeil in the Long Jump and the 200 m. dash. Alan Smith placed 3rd in Pole Vault. Seth McCloskey was 4th in the 200 m. dash. Brian Hertenstein came in 5th in the 1600 m. run. The 400 m. relay team of Alan Smith, Brayden Clay, Wesley Brown and Matthew Baker came in 6th place. 7th place finishers were Wesley Brown in the 1600 m. run, Brayden Clay in the 200 m. hurdles, Brian Hertenstein in the 800 m. run.

3. 8th Grade: You will be taking the ELA test Monday, April 23rd. If you have ear buds, please bring them with you.

4. The 7th grade ELA test has been rescheduled for Tuesday April 24th. The 5th grade Science test has been rescheduled for Monday, April 30th.

5. Hey kids…. We have tickets for free admission to the circus being held at the Ross County Fairgrounds this Saturday (April 21st). Stop by the office and pick up some tickets.

6. The 2018 Spring Art Show and Band Concert will be Tuesday, May 15th. The Art exhibit will be open from 5:00-7:00. The concert starts at 7:00 in the High School Gym. They will be featuring the 5th Grade Band, 6th Grade Band, 7th & 8th Grade Band and the High School Band. Band members need to report to the band room by 6:30 wearing their “concert best”.

7. “Earth Day: A Time For Change” will take place immediately after Birds in the Hills Festival at Camp Oty’Okwa (Butler, Ohio) on Sunday April 22nd from noon until 4:00. Students will lead hikes and have activities for all ages and will showcase some of the projects students have been working on at their schools. Free lunch will be provided by the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio. This is put together by the Youth Climate Action Team and is a coalition of 50 high school students and 12 teachers from 9 Southern Ohio school districts. They have completed 4 overnight workshops over the past 2 years focused on climate change, leadership development and environmental education techniques. Each school team has led projects that reduce the district’s carbon footprint such as starting recycling programs and replacing light bulbs with LEDs. They have also led educational lessons for their peers and younger students with support from Rural Action and Camp Oty’Okwa staff and AmeriCorps members.

8. Attention Parents and Students: Please note a change to this year’s school calendar: There will be no school Monday, May 7th for students (Teacher’s professional development day). This will also change the last day for students to Thursday, May 24th. School will be dismissed at 11:30 for High School and Middle School students that day.

9. Kids in College is a summer enrichment program for students finishing grades K-8. This will be a summer program for kids who are interested in science, history, theater, crafts, archeology, video, tumbling, pottery, dance, cooking, sewing, genealogy, Minecraft/coding, archery, starting your own business, literature, crime lab and other fun educational areas. Fliers are in the office with cost and details of locations. Registration deadline is May 29.

10. Notice from the cafeteria: If you are not eating breakfast, please do not come to the cafeteria in the mornings.

11. We have discount tickets for King’s Island in the office. Stop by and pick up some today!

12. The Archery T-shirt order forms are available in the office.

13. The 2018 yearbooks can be ordered now. Order forms will be in each office or you can follow the link of the yearbook page on the school website.

14. Students: PLEASE NOTE: Hallways and classrooms are now “no spray zones”. Do NOT use perfumes, colognes, body sprays, hair sprays, deodorants or any other aerosol products in these areas.

15. We remind students that even though you are acting out of courtesy, please do NOT open school entrance doors to anyone. They must be “buzzed” in by school personnel.

16. The final dance for this school year has been scheduled for May 5th from 6:00-8:00. This is for 7th and 8th grade students only. The dance will be held in the Cafeteria. The dance will be Semi-Formal. The theme is “Starry Night”. Cost is $5.00. You may purchase your pre-sale tickets for the dance from Mrs. Reed (room # 241) before 1st period and during lunch. Doors will open at 5:00 for pictures. Picture order forms in the office.
